On the morning of June 4 I went up to Table Mt to install a UPS and automatic transfer switch (ATS) to help with power interruption issues. The weather was not bad (T=52 F), when I got there the view toward the ODOT tower looked like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I left, it was just starting to rain, but the view was better – it had cleared up prior to the rain:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Primary purpose was to install the UPS and ATS and after they are installed they appear as shown in these photos:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, there was no way to install these without cycling the power on the microwave radio, which resulted in it becoming unstable. These devices should keep the power from cycling in the future. The UPS is to prevent voltage spikes from causing issues with the microwave radio when the generator comes on, and the ATS is to switch back to the main power supply if (when) the UPS has a problem (most likely battery related). These two devices should lead to better overall stability, but instability does have to be dealt with this time….. there was no way around that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Update 6\/6\/2022: the radio stabilized at approximately 3:40 AM today. Looks to be in a good place now and should stay that way with the power situation more or less taken care of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Update 8\/20\/22: Don and I went up to try re-aiming the microwave dish, as well as to install an additional UPS to help alleviate the dropout problems caused by the radio rebooting when the power is interrupted. In addition, another ATS was installed for monitoring purposes only (with 2 UPS’s on the existing ATS, it was no longer connected directly to the power, so could not monitor that).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
